TSB 07-13-008 | 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer
« on: June 03, 2008, 07:30:21 PM »
This has happened twice now.  I started the car and it was running funny. The tach was bouncing between 1200 and 1400 rpm.  I shut it off and started it again and it was ok but my SES light was on. The next day the light was off and it ran fine. Then it did it again today after work, but this time shutting it off and restarting didn't fix it. When I tried to drive it was super sluggish and would not go over 2500 rpms or over 40 mph even with the pedal to the floor. I also had to reverse capability. I drove it like that to my friends house and when I started it again it was ok but the SES was still on. I went to the dealer, but the techs were gone so I have to go back tomorrow. When I left the dealer the light had gone out and it drove fine again, but I'm upset this is happening with a brand new car. I  will post my findings from the dealer tomorrow.

Definitely keep us updated. Some people are having problems with the Fujita intake. One member on here, tatsujo is working with them on a revised one. So the best thing I can tell you is to just keep your fujita when you get it and get it taken care of through Fujita once they release the new one. Check the Fujita section for more information.

Other than that, I haven't heard of anyone having problems such as that before. Please let us know on your findings at the dealer.

Ok here is the TSB 07-13-008.  I assumed that was the date.  The codes are different than what I saw in the startup problems thread.

P0638  P2100  P2101

So does anyone know what exactly that TSB is about and what those codes mean?

Hmm, I'm glad my problem led to you finding that TSB.  I was just too tired to go looking for it, but I'm glad you found it, because it said they are supposed to replace the throttle body also.  I'm going to have to give them a call, because all they did was reprogram the PCM.

I might be able to take it in friday, but it has been running fine since my visit today.  The TSB says the throttle body is supposed to be replaced after the PCM is reprogrammed, it doesn't say "if necessary" or "may need to be" , so I'm definately gonna ask them why they didn't at least tell me it would need to be done. Seems like the problem could just happen again or it could cause other problems if circuits were damaged. I will call them first and see what kind of excuse they give me.

Well, I went to the dealer yesterday and at first the Service Manager said he thought there was a test they did to see if the throttle body needed to be replaced, but the TSB didn't say that, so after reading the copy of it I took, he said "let me look something up".  He came back and said "I think you're right, let me go talk to the tech.  The tech said "yeah I can order one, probably should to be safe".  So I think they just overlooked it or weren't going to bother with it until I questioned them on it. The Service Manager said with most cars if they have to do something like this it's usually just a reflash and nothing more.
So anyway I'm glad they agreed to do it without a problem.  I'd like my car repaired to manufacturers specs, especially since if it wasn't done right the dealer would be voiding my warranty.  They should get the part thursday. I'm off thurs. and fri. so hopefully I can get it taken care of then. I think I will ask them to throw in my first oil change for free for my troubles.

I called the dealer just a while ago and they got the part about 20 minutes before I called, so I'm taking it in bright and early at 8.a.m. tomorrow. I really don't know if the throttle body needs to be replaced, but since the TSB said to do it, I want it done. It's covered by warranty and according to the TSB if the dealer didn't do it they would be responsible for voiding my warranty by not fixing the car according to Mitsubishi spec.

Thanks to 4B11L for finding that TSB that got me a new throttle body and kept my warranty valid!

I got the new throttle body put on this morning, no problems. They had an EVO GSR in the showroom at the dealer so I took a few pics and posted them in Pictures and Photography.

3 months? Why so long?  My dealership just reprogramed my PCM and sent me on my way, but then I read the TSB, and had to point out to them that the TSB said to replace the whole throttle body. They didn't have a problem with it and ordered the part and it was covered by warranty. I haven't had any problems since, except one or two no starts.

Did you have the exact same TSB? What was happening with your car when you had the problem?

That's sucks! What is happening exactly? Definately take it to the dealership, and if it turrns out to be the same problem, make sure they read the part about replacing the throttle body after they reprogram the PCM.

dependng on the temp of the area your in the engine runs a little high in the RPMs to warm the block. normally when this happens i let the car run till it settles down after that i dont have problems. when you turned the car off you probly didnt allow it time to warm up so it was trying to compensate for ECU something or other. if tech dont know then it may just need to idel like that for a bit. but again if it does dont just cut it off start it let it do its thing and after it calms then drive.
