Where To Buy Brakes?
« on: March 05, 2010, 02:30:06 AM »
My brakes are starting to squeak and make noise. But also it takes the car longer to come to a stop. So I'm deciding on replacing them with some HAWK pads as I read lots of good and satisfied customer reviews on them.

So,

Where is the cheapest place I can pick up a set for both Front and Rear?

Tirerack... Good prices and great customer service!

Be sure to bed them in properly.  HPS pads have a tendency to squeak when not bedded in.  Also, upgraded brake lines will help a LOT with the squishy feeling you get after driving the car hard for some time.

So what are you suggesting; go with OEM pads?

I'm just looking for something that will perform GOOD. I rarely slam on the brakes because I start to brake well in advance.

blays, please be a little more specific!

Now here's my question; EBC or HAWK?

I would say ebc greenstuff for dd if you want a little bit better pad ebc red stuff for track and street.        I have the green stuff and I go to the track every once in awhile and I love them they have more stoping power than stock and last longer

Hawk Hawk Hawk!!! Specifically HPS. Low dust, good stopping, not too much fade, but doesnt bite to aggressively for DD. I have had them on several cars, and liked them very much.

Any noise from the EBC? What about the HAWK?

Fairly low noise, maybe a squeek here or there..

I ordered EBC Redstuff pads and EBC Ultimax Rotors from placeforbrakes.com. Very fast shipping, will be installing them this weekend when I also switch to the summer tire/rim combo.

By the way my stock rotors are warped, possibly due to a hard compound pad & shitty rotor quality (pieces of metal in between have cracked and have fallen off.

im thinking bout getting the redstuff pads too, for the price they are the best, esp if i do end up with the works flash. and for like 10 bucks more than the greenstuff, can't beat it. ill be checking brake sys for sure tomorrow
are there any other types of pads besides hawk, ebc, akebono's? anyone get the akebono's. done searches but no info on 9gen's with them.

After how many miles are you guys changing your pads?

I have about 31,000; it sometimes squeaks, and other times doesn't. But when it does, GOD I HATE THE SOUND >:(

im at 33ish. maybe more. but my steering wheel shakes back n forth when i stop with a lil more pressure than usual. esp if im slowing down from 100+. so i think pads could be uneven. i coudlnt hear a squeek if i wanted to cuz i always got my system on.

I'm changing them at 24,000 miles. Pads still have a lot of material left but the rotors are warped (uneven).

WOW, both of your case's seem pretty dangerous. Sorry to hear about it because it really takes away from the driving experience that the Lancer offers :(.

Shadowflame, my tires were causing my steering wheel to shake like crazy. The same applied to when I had to brake, so the steering wheel would shake a little. If your stopping fast from a 100+, then most likely the ASB goes ON, which you can feel in the car.
