INFO: Everything you wanted to know about Lancer Audio

General info about the speakers in the Lancer

The following three types of speakers are available.

4 speakers Standard on the DE

6 speakers Standard on the ES, GTS

9 speakers Rockford Fosgate® premium sound system, part of the 6-CD changer upgrade or the Sun & Sound package which includes the Navigation Unit (MMCS).

Base System
2x 1" Tweeter (Soft Dome) (ES and GTS only)
2x 6.5" Mid Range (Paper Cone) - 4ohm
2x 6.5" Full Range (Paper Cone) - 4ohm

Rockford Fosgate
2x 1" Tweeter (Soft Dome)
2x 6.5" Midbass (PP Cone)  - 2ohm
2x 6.5" Full Range 2-Way (PP Cone) - 2ohm
1x 10" Dual Voice Coil Long Throw Subwoofer - 1.1ohm
8ch DSP Amplifer 650W (Max)

The door openings of vehicles with a 9 speaker system is blocked by using a sheet metal cover
and a urethane integrated resin sheet (resin cover and water proof film) to make the door
into a speaker box, thus improving the sound quality. As an advantage of the sheet metal cover,
the rigidity of the areas around the speaker has been increased, and the higher sound pressure,
suppression of high harmonic, and suppression of dumping are achieved to improve sound quality.
RockfordFosgate.com

The sub enclosure can fit a 10" sub with a depth of 11cm deep (4 5/16") if you cut out the rear sub mount inside the enclosure and patch it closed you can get an additional 1 1/4" of depth

Note: The amp uses a digital data signal to turn on, not a typical electrical remote lead.

Why Mitsubishi claims that the RF System has 9 speakers?
The full range speakers on the rear has a tweeter in it (2-way); therefore Mitsubishi considered that as speaker as well.

Basic layout of the Rockford Fosgate system

These are side-by-side images of both the Base System rear and
aftermarket Rockford Fosgate (not much different than the OEM RF) rear speakers:

Wire color keychart

Speaker Test
Note: This is for the Base and Rockford Fosgate 6-CD changer systems.

Enter the speaker connection check mode according to the following steps:

1.Turn the Ignition switch to the "ACC" or "ON" position and switch off the radio and CD player.
2.Press the following buttons in that order within sixty seconds from step (1).
(1) [CH1] button
(2) Rewind button
(3) Fast-forward button
(4) [CH6] button

3.Check that the speaker, which is displayed on the centre panel display, sounds
(If the [CH6] button is pressed, the speaker will be changed).
Note The display of "FL", "FR", "RL", "RR","RW" blinks.

4.If a button other than the [CH6] button is pressed, or the ignition switch is turned
to "LOCK" (OFF) position, you will exit from the speaker connection check mode.

Note: this is still incomplete and I will be adding more as time goes by, but felt people still needed a starting point.

just a quick question so if i wanted to take out the stock sub and throw in an audiobahn what would it take to make it work?

Well the stock sub is a Dual Voice Coil DVC sub. running @ 75w RMS at 1 OHM, good luck finding a Audiobahn rated this low... it low of the low as far as DVC's go, trying to find one that runns at 1 OHM is even harder

It would be better to add a dedicated sub if you are going to install an aftermarket sub.

Just a possible future.
