Excellent article! But, if I have a complete HID's set, won't it contain this equipment? And even if it does't, won't a car's electrician know what to do, so the HID's work properly? And somethind else.. Why do I need a DRL bypass and a relay harness?

Our 08/09 Lancers have Daytime Running Lights. "The DRL signal is NOT a constant DC (6V, 9V, etc.) but rather a square waveform peaking at 14VDC and a frequency of about 60Hz (this is better for the bulb longevity than running them at 6V)"

If you run a set of HID's in the Lancers, the DRL's will cause your HID lights to flicker. Now to avoid the flicker, you can have your lights ON all the time. OR, you can simply BYPASS the DRL's. There are several ways to "BYPASS" the DRL's--which may include splicing the wiring harness. Some people would rather not splice or interfere with the OEM wiring, so THIS DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harness acts as another option. It is completely plug & play; NO splicing.

This DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harness serves as two things: 1) DRL bypass (eliminate)  ..  2) Standard Relay Harness for HID's

+1 for the great information. By the way, the position indicators and auto low beam work as usual, don't they?

Installing this DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harness simply eliminates the DRL's. This does not alter any other functions. By position indicators, do you mean turn signals? If so, then yes, they work as usual as they should since no other functions are changed. I'm not so sure what you mean about auto low beam.

Do you have the HID projector or non-HID headlights?

I have the simple halogen lamb headlights with deflectors, not projectors, and I am considering of replace them with projectors and HID's. When I am saying position indicators, I mean the small lambs at the edge of the headlights. And the auto low beam is the position for turning the low beam or DRL on/off automatically, when you drive from lightful to dark places of the opposite..

Does your car have an auto on/off headlights? Over here in the US we didn't get that feature until recently on the new Touring Package for the 2009+ GTS which already comes with HIDs.

^Ahh I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

We don't have the feature, so I wouldn't be able to tell you if the auto low beam will work. However, I do know that the signal indicators (small lamps at the edge of the headlights aka parking lights) will work. You can see them working as they should in my clip.

Are you serius?  |shocked| No auto on/off headlights until now? Very useful feature and we have it standard here in Greece since the 2008 9th Lancers.. Of course, we don't have other features like sunroof (can you think about it? no sunroof in sunny Greece..  |death|), projector headlights except Evolution.. Unexceptable! And we still wait for Ralliart..  |crap|

Reading two days now about DRL bypass, I figured this out. We don't need DRL bypass here in Greece, since our Lancers are not equipped with DRL's. We have the auto on/off feature instead of DRL's.  |thumbsup|

I think i've asked before, but does this drl bypass/relay harness work if i don;t have HIDS?

I have angel eyes and really wanna get rid of these damn drl's.

Thanks very much. If I need HID's, could anyone reccommend a set that would go well with this dr bypass/relay?

Lol. Yea, I used to be on ISS. I remember you even posted my car with my CF hood on like an official car ride thread. But that's a different story.

Yes, my parents wouldn't let me keep the CF hood, so I had to sell it.   |death|

I spent the day completing and testing each DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harness. They have all been tested and confirmed to work 100% upon arrival. I have a total of 25 sets available.

I've also been able to test and confirm that the DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harness I provide will in fact work 100% with non-HID stock headlights.

**Please take note: I will be going on vacation from June 20-27th. This transaction must be completed ASAP, to ensure I ship your DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harness before June 20.

Thank you for your interest.  |cool|

^Judging from the pic, I would say there is no relay harness--But it's a little hard to tell. If you can spread out all the cables and take a picture, I'd be able to tell you.

Just wanted to let everyone know that  JRox's DRL bypass works like a charm and is very easy to install.

I have angel eyes without HID's and really wanted to be able to drive around without my low beams on. I ordered my drl bypass kit yesterday and it was in my mail today! We are both in NJ...so that's why so fast.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you all know that if your interested in his item, it's great!

Thanks again J, great product, especially that funkybeats is busy atm. Great Stuff!!!

^There's really not much to do. I will refer to the NAMES of the plugs found in my instructions: http://projectlancer.info/Howtos/DLRInstructions.pdf

For HID's, Male 9006 (Driver) & Male 9006 (Passenger) are originally plugged into the female Ballast plug. For STOCK Bulbs, Male 9006 (Driver) & Male 9006 (Passenger) are plugged into the female STOCK bulb plugs. This is the only change. Very simple.

Question, if I were to order an HID kit, it comes with a Relay Harness, wouldn't that be the same as the harness you have here?
I was looking at it, and they are almost identical.

For example, K Nguyen's kit above has a relay harness, wouldn't that allow him to bypass his DRL's already?

For example, K Nguyen's kit above has a relay harness, wouldn't that allow him to bypass his DRL's already?

I'm pretty sure a HID kit w/harness still does not have the DRL Bypass section which is needed. Now perhaps you could incorporate the DRL Bypass, so you don't have to buy 2 harness's. But i'm pretty sure you still need the section to disable the DRL's which is not included in a HID kit.

^The DRL Bypass circuitry is constructed WITHIN a standard Relay Harness. So yes, you would replace it.

Well not every relay harness would do that, because I got one and it still flicker I had to add a capacitor at first so it could stay 24/7 while driving on, but now I just made my own DRL lol  using the same relay harness tho...

Just got my drl bypass from Jrox in the mail the other day and had a nice day off to put it on today. Install was extremely easy and didn't take very long at all. I think total time I spent on it was probably about 30 minutes and that's only because once I saw that the bypass worked properly I spent the rest of the time hiding any excess wiring and making it look as pretty and professional of an install as possible. I'm using the drl bypass with stock lights... no HID's at this point in time, although I do plan on getting some in the future. So far the bypass works perfectly and I've had no problems with it at all. I'd highly recommend this as a solution for anyone looking to bypass the DRL system without messing with any of the stock wiring. Thanks for an easy and effective fix to my annoying DRL's!!  |cheesy|

I just got one of these bypasses last week and it works perfectly. Before I got it I had to swap my DRL's with my parking lights in order to show off my angel eyes, but they flickered a bit and weren't very bright and even made the power inverter fail because of the low-voltage. Since I got this I was able wire everything back as normal and now don't have to worry about leaving my angel eyes on all day as DRL's and messing them up again. Now they show bright and beautiful. This a great plug and play 5 minute install product. For my HID's and angel eyes it was worth every penny. Thanks again, jRox.

just got it today. install was pretty easy except i dont know who put my car together but all the bolts and nuts are extremely tight and i couldnt get enough leverage to unscrew the ground screws where you showed them so i used other ones. other than that works great and thanks for the product. oh just one question though when my car is not started but it is in on position i hear a sound coming from somewhere near the battery, sort of like humming is that normal?

That's great news. Thanks for the positive feedback.

The noise you are hearing may just be electronic noise coming from your HID ballasts. The noise lessens and dies out as time goes on. Mine also do the same. It shouldn't be anything to worry about.

i have this. had no problems what so ever...i just think using only one ballast is very safe? and would shorten the life of the ballast?

Thanks for all the positive feedback!  |azn|

I agree, works perfect, just wish the wire was longer
Sorry, I have no control in the length of the wires of the DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harness. I simply construct an electric circuit (DRL Bypass) within the Relay Harness. Try mounting it under the radiator plate (plastic piece). I used zipties to hold it in place and had no issues with the length.

i have this. had no problems what so ever...i just think using only one ballast is very safe? and would shorten the life of the ballast?
One ballast? The DRL Bypass w/ Relay connects to both ballasts, both are being used.

Supposebly i heard, if you disable the DRL's you can install the HID's no problem, but if you want them on you need a bypass.

^I don't really understand what you're trying to say. The DRL's can not be utilized when running HID's.

I was able to build & test several more DRL Bypasses. They are confirmed to work 100% upon arrival. I have a total of 15 sets in stock.

Sorry guys. I've been caught up with finals. I finally had found some time to build & test more DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harnesses. I only have 8 sets available, ready to be shipped. However, all sets are reserved for those who PM'd me during the 2 weeks I've been busy. Due to high demand, I must sell them on a "First Pay, First Serve" basis. If someone backs out, I'll update the thread.

**Please Note: I will be going out of the country for vacation December 25 - January 13.

For those interested in purchasing a set, I'll try and have more available before I leave for vacation.

Yea, no problem. I know the feeling!

I have stuff sitting in a bin waiting for a warm day for me to install onto my car... It sucks looking at this nice stuff and realising it's about 30 or lower outside and too cold to work  :'(

where is jrox?
i need a set, and i have sent him 2 PMs, but the fool has not replied back!!!

Sorry about that. Just back from vacation a few days ago. Hope everyone enjoyed their Holidays. Been working around the clock to get these DRL Bypasses built, tested, and ready to be shipped. I've replied all PM's in the order they were received. If I missed you, please send me another PM.

I currently have 14 x DRL Bypass w/ Relay Harnesses available, ready to be shipped. I've tested & confirmed its 100% proper working order. I have plenty of customers waiting in line for a set. If I do not receive a response/payment from you, I will have to cancel the invoice and sell to another interested customer.

**Please Note: Due to high demand, I must sell them on a "First Pay, First Serve" basis.

Thank you for your patience!  8)

I'm still waiting on a few to respond and/or make the payment. If I do not receive a response/payment soon, I will have no choice but to cancel the invoice and sell to another interested customer. For those who have already sent the payment, the earliest I can ship them out will be tomorrow. USPS is closed today for MLK: http://www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/calendar/federalholidays.htm

I still have a few available, ready to be shipped. If you'd like to purchase a set, please send me a PM with your PayPal email login so I can send an invoice your way. Thank you!

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not. But if all the lights are off, then you turn on your high-beams, the low-beams will also turn on. I'd say leave the high-beams on until your HIDs (low-beam) reach their full brightness. If you turn the high-beams on, off, on, off, on, off, then it's most likely damaging your HIDs.

Be careful!!!!

Reading two days now about DRL bypass, I figured this out. We don't need DRL bypass here in Greece, since our Lancers are not equipped with DRL's. We have the auto on/off feature instead of DRL's.  |thumbsup|

No you do not if you have the Auto on/off feature.

What DDMTuning and most other companies offer are anti-flicker kits. Yes, they do resolve the HID flicker issue. However, they function differently.

With an anti-flicker kit installed:

Position 0 - LOW Beams ON
Position 1 - Parking lights ON, LOW Beams ON
Position 2 - Parking lights ON, LOW Beams ON

With my DRL Bypass properly installed, all lights will assume normal function:

Position 0 - All lights OFF, DRL's OFF
Position 1 - Parking lights ON, DRL's OFF
Position 2 - Low beams ON, Parking lights ON

I dont know if any one is having a problem but this happen to me like five times already. When i turn on my car and turn on my low beam my hids dont turn on. Dont get me wrong the bypass does its job. I have to switch it on and off a couple of times to turn but nothing. Then i just drive off with my highs and they come on. They also had turn on and off while i was driving @ night 3 times in a row. So not sure wuts the problem the hids are working fine and so is the bypass/relay harness. Think it could be the computer having a glitch.

Make sure all connections, including the 2 grounds on the bypass, are setup correctly. Also try connecting the HIDs directly to the cars OEM sources. Then turn the car on and see if the HIDs turn on with no problems. There is also a fuse in the Bypass but if it is working sometimes but not others it is not the fuse.

You are awesome! You always answer everyone's questions in my thread.  :P

Memphiles, it sounds like you may have an intermittent connection. First, check the fuse (located on the red power cable). Then, make sure all your plugs are correctly seated. After, check to see that both grounds are properly bolted. You can also follow bluegts09's advice to help isolate the problem.

Just to serve as an update, I recently completed building 40 x DRL Bypasses. However, we were hit by a snow storm just a couple days ago so the weather isn't exactly ideal to individually test all the DRL Bypasses. I would have these available by tonight, but unfortunately, I don't have a access to a garage. I'm hoping for better weather in the next couple of days or so. Please bare with me if time permits. I'm trying my best to have these available to those interested. Thank you for all your patience.  ;)

Instead of hooking this harness up to ground, can I just hook it up to a sparate bulb to act as the drl?

Not really. I just really want to Emphasize the seduction of Angel Eyes by turning off my DRL. At night, there are streets, esp. main roads, that have sufficient lights that even I turn off my Low beams, I can still drive on it.

So it's really up to you. :D

The DRL's run through your Low Beam bulb.

You can still run HID's. You'll just have to keep them ON 24/7 to avoid the HID flicker.

j..you really Rox man.

I ordered the DRL bypass. (last week i think? time flies, don't remember) Shipping and delivery was speedy and perfect. The bypass worked like a charm with my regular lights. Hooked up HID kit and it was flawless. Job almost looks professional and didn't have to worry about cutting any wires and don't have to leave HID on all the time. Install took roughly 1 hour. Could have been faster, but never did this before. Had help from an experienced friend too who doesn't have a lancer.

I'd recommend this to anyone wanting a HID kit.

Keep up the good work jRox. i'd give you rep if i knew how. But left a positive feedback. :)

I test & confirm each DRL Bypass before I ship them out. That being said, it is more than likely user-installation error. You'd be surprised how many people make silly mistakes during installation.

I've PM'd you some troubleshooting steps.

I might be needing a bypass soon.  I was informed about these HIDs from DDMTUNING, and plan to get them probably next month.  Will the 35w 8000k kit work fine with your bypass?

I might be needing a bypass soon.  I was informed about these HIDs from DDMTUNING, and plan to get them probably next month.  Will the 35w 8000k kit work fine with your bypass?

The majority of those who purchased from me, have/had DDM Tuning HID's. It should work no problem.   ;)

awesome!  thanks for the reply.  And just one more question, I only need the bypass for the lowbeams correct?  I wont need one for the High beams or fogs right?

The DRL signal is only passed through the Low Beams. So yes, only 1 x DRL Bypass for the Low Beams is necessary.

I haven't tested my DRL Bypass on a 2010 Outlander. However, it's probably no different than the 2007-2008 Outlanders [confirmed]. He can purchase my DRL Bypass and if it's confirmed to be incompatible, I have no problem issuing him a full refund.  8)

Sounds like you may have an intermittent connection. Be sure that both your plugs are correctly seated and your grounds are properly bolted.

After providing the DRL Bypass for over a year now, I've decided to offer it at a lower cost.

Original Price:  $60 shipped
*REDUCED Price:  $45 shipped

I've also changed my Return/Exchange Policy:

*Return/Exchange:
Void after 30 days from date of delivery.
Void if the DRL bypass is tampered in anyway. I will know, I made it.
Valid only for defected/faulty products.
If it's been over 30 days since date of delivery, I can offer a repair service. Contact me for more info.

You can now purchase my DRL Bypass through Ebay. I recently found out someone also began to provide the DRL Bypass on Ebay. If you check out his ad, you'll see that he made no effort to describe his own and virtually copied my description of this product. Please show your support by purchasing my DRL Bypass as I've been serving the Lancer community for over a year.

Thank you for all your past/present/future support! It's been a pleasure to serve you all.

All transactions will now take place via Ebay:

Yes sir. An HID kit + DRL Bypass is all you will need for the installation.  ;)

Other people sell just a standard 9006 Relay Harness. It will not function the same as my DRL Bypass. A standard 9006 Relay Harness basically sources clean power straight from your battery, rather than the headlight plug.

I build an electronic circuit specifically designed to eliminate the DRL's. I then construct this circuit WITHIN a standard 9006 Relay Harness; Hence, why they look similar. They both do not function the same. A standard 9006 Relay Harness alone will not eliminate the DRL's.

Hi Jrox,

For your DRL bypass does it have the capability to provide a control signal that would be active when DRLs would normally be active that could be utilized to a relay or switch to another circuit to control alternate lights to the DRL (such as wiring in Angel eyes or LEDs, etc.)?

Please refer to my instructions: http://projectlancer.info/Howtos/DLRInstructions.pdf

You'll see that only the Driver-side Headlight Plug is used with the DRL Bypass. You can use the Passenger-side Headlight Plug as it still provides the DRL signal.

I understand that the regular plug would still provide the DRL signal however that same plug would provide the headlight-on signal as well when its engaged (full power).

I'm a computer engineer myself and have a rough idea of how you're separating/suppressing the DRL signal however I was just wondering if you've done it in such a way where that signal itself or an indicative signal could be isolated to a separate lead from your circuit?

I see what you're saying. Unfortunately, this design contains no separate lead to produce this indicative signal.

I'm still interested in getting one of these from you, just need to wait til funds allow it.  Had unexpected expenses come up recently, thus delaying my plans to get HIDs on my lancer.

This bypass is really neat but I am looking for something else.  In position 0 with your bypass, the DRLs are off, where I live it's the law to have working full time DRLs, is there anything you could provide jrox or does anyone know of any type of fix that would work so that once I turn my car on, my HIDs are on aswell?

Also, I got an issue with my LED tail lights where the lights on the trunk are not on but the ones on the body are.  And some of you may know this also has an affect on the cruise control.  Golyadkin suggested swithing a red and black wire a little up the harness, I tried it on one side and it never changed anything and on the other side I never saw a red and black wire.

Thanks

if you need drl where you live, dont use the bypass but then your hid's will be on all day. running your hid as drl will cause different current to them resulting in flicker. running your hid's all day as well has been shown to shorten their life span... at least of the bulbs anyways.

with regards to the cruise control, there's a thread on here explaining the fix. you have to get a resistor hooked up so that the cruise control doesnt malfunction. im sorry i cant tell you off hand how much ohms is the resistor but its in another thread somewhere.

it should be pinned in the Knowledge Base. alot of people will need that, including me if i ever decide to get the led tails.

Yes, there is a harness that will turn on your lights as soon as you start your car. This is called an anti-flicker kit. It will basically provide full power to your HID's at all times--Thus, your Low Beams will be ON 24/7.

With an anti-flicker kit installed:

Position 0 - Low Beams ON
Position 1 - Parking lights ON, Low Beams ON
Position 2 - Parking lights ON, Low Beams ON

I actually happen to have 1 x anti-flicker at hand. I've only used it once to verify that its function differs from my DRL Bypass. I can sell it to you for $10 + shipping to your door. PM me if you're interested.

Can you take a pic of the female plug? It could possible be fixed with a set of pliers or simply a replacement female plug.

Sounds like you blew the fuse. Check the fuse located on the red power cable. A replacement fuse can either be 20A or 25A.

So aside from the DRL Bypass, and HID's from DDM do we need their error code eliminator or no?

on the side note... i want to get 35w 6000k's for both fogs and lows... only cuz i dont want the shades of light to be different if i got 55w for lows and 35 for fogs anyone care to shed some light on that?

No we dont need the error code eliminator just jrox harness

And u gunna see the difference of shade of light between ur lows and fogs. Also for the fogs u gunna have to plug it in backwards to the ballast they seem to have the wires on the wrong side.

I'm a bit new to HIDs, but I've ordered the DRL Bypass from you JRox and I was wondering do I need anything else other than the Bypass and the HID kit (OmegaXenon(dot)com)?

Do I need a Anti-Flickering Capacitator? (xenonsupply(dot)com)

And will I have to change the fuse in the fuse box to an 20 mA or 30 mA fuse?

Sweet! Thanks for the help!

Another thing that I wanted to know, do I need to do something with the housing? Or getting it retro fitted?

Sorry for not responding to some concerns. Just got back from vacation in Orlando. Looks like everyone's question has been answered by others. Thanks to all!  ;D

In conclusion:  To safely run HID's on 08+ Lancers, you simply need an Aftermarket 9006 HID Plug & Play kit + my DRL Bypass. Nothing else is needed!  ;)

Any other questions, feel free to PM me or post here!  8)

Alright sounds like I'm set then.

Some people told me that i needed projector headlights in order to run them legally in Texas and I'm not sure if i need them or not...I've looked some up and the only one they had for sell was the one by SPEC-D Tuning going for $899.99

Check local laws first you may well need them , But , If you do a search on here you will find there are some ways to make projectors for around $300 total cost but involves some labor.

Plenty of customers also use DDM HID kits. It should work no problem. Your order will be shipped tomorrow.  8)

Quick question.
55w 9006, 6000k hid kit will make it look like stock infiniti/acura/bmw have and what not?
I'm talking about the color (6000k). :-)

So, I just received my DRL bypass. I noticed that it didn't come with the red cable (power +), only two black cables (ground -). Will it still work like this?

Edit: I just got confused, is all. I got up and running now.  :)

I personally think 6000k is the closest kelvin rating to the stock HID's from luxury cars.

Haha, no problem. Good to hear all is well.   ;D
