« on: March 07, 2009, 06:20:57 PM »

Ingredients
•   P21S Wheel Gel
•   P21S Total Auto Wash
•   Boar’s Hair Brush
•   Nylon Brush
•   Swissvax Wheel Brush
•   Fire hose Nozzle
•   Adam’s Clay Bar
•   Adam’s Detail Spray
•   Menzerna FMJ
•   Swissvax Autobahn Wheel Wax
•   Swissvax Pneu
•   Microfiber Cloths
•   Microfiber Applicator Pad
•   Detail Sponges

Sorry, no before picture for this one. It was snowing last week and the wheel was soaked in salt and road grime - use your imagination.  This How-To assumes removing the wheel from the car.  I don’t always do it this way, but since my calipers desperately needed a touch up, I figured I’d kill two birds with one stone.

Your first step is going to be using the fire hose nozzle to get the wheel and tire nice and wet.  Once the wheel is wet, soak your tire with P21S TAW and the rim (inside and out) with P21S Wheel Gel.  You’ll notice that almost instantly, the P21S will start to destroy the brake dust, tar, and road grime:

Let the wheel sit (out of direct sunlight) for 15-20 minutes.  After 20 minutes, moisten your brush arsenal and begin agitating the P21S beginning with the nylon brush on the tire, then the Boar’s Hair Brush & Swissvax Wheel Brush on the face of the wheel, and, after rinsing it off, use the Nylon Brush again to get the inner barrel of the wheel:

The Boar's Hair Brush on the face of the wheel:

The Nylon Brush on the barrel of the wheel:

After your tire/wheel is thoroughly scrubbed, rinse them down with a strong jet of water from your fire hose nozzle.  Even without heavy scrubbing, the P21s will have left you with a near perfect wheel!  If it’s still dirty, apply the P21S Wheel Gel again and let it sit for another 20 minutes.  Completely dry everything off (including the tire) using a soft microfiber towel.  Now take out your Adam’s Clay bar and Adam’s Detail Spray.  Clay EVERY part of the wheel to remove all of that brake dust and baked in nastiness:

Starting the Claying process:

After finishing with the Adam's Clay Bar:

Once the wheel is clayed, lightly mist it with Adam’s Detail Spray and dry with a soft, clean microfiber cloth to remove the clay residue. Now it’s time for the two greatest (and best smelling) products ever made! - Swissvax Pneu and Swissvax Autobahn Wheel Wax.  The products aren't this blurry in real life  :D :

Start with the Pneu first by spraying it directly on the tire.  Use a very light coating – you don’t need to saturate the tire with this stuff.  Once applied, use either a clean Detail Sponge or a clean Swissvax Wheel Brush to spread the Pneu around the tire.  Pneu will leave the tire with a natural, organic sheen – not a crappy artificial shine that only attracts dirt & dust.  Now that the tire is dressed, use a wax applicator pad or your CLEAN bare hands to apply the Swissvax Autobahn Wheel Wax.  This wax has a Teflon base, so it will repel dirt, brake dust, and water and make the rims very easy to clean in the future.

Optionally, you can use a sealant such as Menzerna FMJ on the barrel of the wheel in order to help repel dirt and brake dust.  Here's the Menzerna and Microfiber Applicator Pad sitting inside of a still somewhat dirty wheel:

Thanks for your information.

I usually just use auto wash to wash my wheels.

Any place that you would recommend to purchase P21S Wheel Gel from?  I heard a lot of good things about this product.

I currently use Eagle One A2Z™ All Wheel & Tire Cleaner, what do you think about this product?

detailersdomain.com is where I get my stuff from.  If you do decide to buy anything from there, PM me before you do - I can help you out on the price.

Eagle One stuff is OK.  That product lacks some real cleaning power, but for a store-bought item, it's not too bad.
