Rear Bumper Light Reflector LED
« on: October 29, 2012, 08:39:00 PM »
Does anyone have this installed on their car?

Thoughts????

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CJ-VR-VR-X-SX-ES-DE-SE-GTS-07-12-Rear-Bumper-Light-Reflector-LED-Red-Mitsubishi-/110949870719?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d520ac7f&vxp=mtr

I came across these lights & want to know which one to go with. I've seen some on E-Bay with a single row of 10 LED's for like $28ish & another one that is $59 that has a double row of LED's which looks nicer.

How much of a pain in the rear is it to install these & have everything hooked up?

Anyone have issues with them not lasting or anything? I can't seem to find any with any kind of a warranty. I don't know if I'd be asking for trouble by getting these & having them burn out or foul out after a while or what.

I did try to do a search for these, but I didn't come up with anything.

I have the single row, for like 28 like you said, you have to take off your bumper to pop off the stock reflectors and then wire them to your taillights . it can be a pain if you dont know how to wire correctly, it took me a whopping 45-60 mins,

I have a double row ones installed, but of a little better quality - the PC board can not be seen through the reflector. The ones in your post do not look too good. Here are some pics of the install. I have had them on the car for about 4-5 months with no issues. All you have to watch out for is the connectors and waterproofing those. I've elected to have connectors right there for the ease of rear bumper cover removal in the future.

These are the ones I have:

Guys thank you so much for the input. Since I do not know how to take off the bumper myself, I will have to get my buddy that does body work & see if he would be interested in doing this job.

I really like how it looks though. Give you a slightly different look at night. I want to get the rear fog lamp as well, but that thing is expensive!

its not hard at all. two or three visible clips if get underneath the bumper. you have to take off two bolts i believe in each rear wheel well. and two bolts by your tails (if you open the trunk it will be near the tail lights bolts) and then the rest is the front bumper. just have to yank it carefully to pull it out.

Thanks man, I'll check it out tomorrow to get an idea. Of course I have the Sportback, so I'll see if it is any different.

The rear fog lamp is this:

I've ended up purchasing it from them as nowhere else I could find it. Fits the rear bumper cover with no issues.

Do these still act as reflectors? Ya know, DOT standards and all...

Is all that wiring already there?

Yes, they act as reflectors when are not lit.

Nop, had to wire them up from stock wiring to the tail lights. The reflectors come with 3 feet of their own wiring, which I did cut off in order to install the connectors you see on the pic.

Actually the rear fog light on the N/A Lancer and EVO X's looks like this...

Notice the inner tail light is red on one side and clear on the other... The red goes constant bright like a brake light when you turn your fogs on. This comes standard on JDM and Euro Lancers.

VTEC - Sometimes you need a catchy word to let the world know your car doesn't make power until 5000 RPM.

When you turn the REAR fog light on - it is controlled separately from the front fogs on those cars. It is the same forward/backward springloaded slider on the combination switch, but the slider has to be slid forward twice for the rear to activate.
