So last tank made 35.2 MPG; I think there is more that can come from this...  Anyone made better numbers yet?

Oh I have hit up to 42mpg hypermiling.

VTEC - Sometimes you need a catchy word to let the world know your car doesn't make power until 5000 RPM.

I didn't see one; although I didn't search  :P

I have gotten the dash to say 45 mpg but I am talking a full tank start to finish;  I also don't know how accurate the dash is, I usually do 42-45mpg according to it for 130 miles a day and I end up with 35 at the pump.

Wow, 18 would be hard to do.  If you drive the same, I'd say something is wrong there.  Or maybe you bought some *really* heavy shoes.

Are you guys doing the math or basing off the "avg mile" screen option? Based off the screen I'm getting 29mpg but doing the math tells me I'm only getting 23mpg a tank, on average. Unless you guys are doing the math, I'm not really believing the whole "I'm getting 40 mpg because it says so"

On my 09 it reestablish after the cars been off for a few hours so you wouldn't yield accurate take anlysis based off the screen

Best I ever got was 32mpg but ever since my last oil & filter change my numbers have been higher then ever.. But then those are those trips that go 18mpg too

And doesn't the GTS get slightly worse MPG numbers then the ES and DE trims?

So I read up on Hypermiling, and I had some idea of what it was.  This brings up something I've wondered about.  I encounter many people driving 35-45 in a 60 or 70 zone.  Typically I go around them, as I figure they're drunk, stoned.  This isn't that outrageous of an idea here in the northwest, it's pretty common.

My question is this.  Is the environmental damage prevented by one person hypermiling in their car greater than the damage I and others do when dropping to 2nd or 3rd to get past the road hazard?

I'm really just trying to go the speed limit and not get run over by semi's.

My tank was done from start to finish with the odometer; recorded on fuelly (the site in my signature), I agree that the screen is wrong but it does help you visualize the amount of fuel being burned going up hills and from dead starts.

Best I ever got was 32mpg but ever since my last oil & filter change my numbers have been higher then ever.. But then those are those trips that go 18mpg too

And doesn't the GTS get slightly worse MPG numbers then the ES and DE trims?

I could imagine that to be true; my DE doesn't have an AC system sapping energy.

whats hypermiling? i just looked it up on google but dont really understand it and how are you guys getting so high mpgs? ill get 23 if im lucky city driving

Just drive the car like it doesn't have brakes, it is all about conservation of momentum, more braking = worse mpg; also don't speed up hills, slow up the hill, quicker down.

That is true some take it too far; generally I run from 55-60 in a 65, 65 is the limit not how fast you have to go.  If people planned their trips better and left earlier there wouldn't be a rush to go anywhere.  On the same token why would you speed past them rather than wait and then slowly switch lanes?

Most places I travel sub speed limit and things like that have 3+ lanes also, I just never understood the "I am now pissed because you haven't been going the legal limit, watch me waste my money!",  While I continue to putt around as if my car has an egg under the gas pedal.

After K&N drop in and Magnaflow cat back I'm getting 36mpg on an hour long highway commute. But thats me filling it up before the trip and filling up when I get back and doing the math myself. My digital reader always reads lower than my math when filling up by a few mpg.

On my 25 mile commute to work on practically all highway, I used to get 30, 31mpg according to the screen, now that I added my Injen SRI I'm down to 27, 28 on average.  >:(  Sucks bro  I think the coupling piece is a little too big, I'm gonna order a smaller one from them.

- It's a 4 hour reset cycle.

Every morning I get 31-32 mpg hypermiling @ 75 (120) on 4B12 with Injen CAI. Goes up to 34-35 if I stay @ 65 (105). The secret to hypermiling is like said before: avoid sudden heavy accelerations and/or sudden breaking.

The problem with underdrive pulleys now a/c , p/s , and water pump have to work harder to do same job as before , plus added stress on their internals .

So as much as I think gas mileage and saving the environment is a good thing; I still think that people driving 35 in the slow lane while semis one lane over run at 70 is a recipe for disaster.  With 3-4 lanes at best and many cars means you have to get from 35 to 70 in very short order.  Causing a road hazard in order to save a couple of cents is foolish to an extreme.  This will and does cause accidents, people will ultimately die.  I'd rather it not be me or mine.  A speed limit is fine, but if you can't stay with the flow of traffic, get off the road and ride the bus.

Nope, I was talking about the real situation on the highways here.  I'd asked a question a page or so ago, and nobody seemed to understand that you might have to double your speed if you want to get out of the slow lane or get creamed by a semi.  This behavior is extremely dangerous where I live.

Oh, that is crazy, whenever I have to peg it to get around somebody in the slow lane on LI, it's always a Betty White, or Abe Vigoda like character that I see behind the wheel.  I never see hypermilers go to that extreme out here.

no, its just all those tree huggin hippy fa**ots(maybe stoned) think they can save the planet by saving gas and not polluting the environment. what they forget is that they can do all the BS they want but as soon as a small volcano erupts on the coast of some-fux-island it throws more garbage into the atmosphere then any hyperMiling  prius driving scat ball could ever hope to save.

i was goin about 70-80 MPH on a 15 hour trip from VA to MI and i was getting about 30MPG and basically 2 tanks the whole trip.

by the screen thing down the mountain sides i was getting like 45 MPG but you cant go off the screen it isnt very accuate i go by what the math says after i fill up and divide the miles by the gallons i fill up.
