Where have I been
« on: February 23, 2012, 02:22:25 PM »
I can now see where I came from. Installed my backup camera this afternoon.
Mounted

Ran the wires in through this vent. I was going to use a grommet on the other side but figured this was easier than drilling a hole in the grommet.

Self explanatory.  :D

Can you make it display all the time?  Is a rear view mirror still required if you have something like this?  I hate rear view mirrors in general, they always block something I want to see.

Probably can, but that was not my primary intention.

Nice results!  Is there any other way you could mount it thought to make it more clean??

it'd be siiick if the size of the lens fits perfectly on the fast key trunk button
so you can essentially sacrifice the fast key button and replace it with the camera

Yeoldelancer ~yes it could be done different for a 'cleaner' install but Here I just bolted it to the tag bolts. Didn't really want to cut any body panels to put the camera in.

Pino~ Having the camera offset would be a pain in the @ss. It just wouldn't look right.

And a zip tie will clean up that loose looking cable.  :D

you could also drill a hole big enough for the cable behind the licence plate to run it in, because it will always have to be covered.

The way this cable is made that would require a 3/4 inch hole.

Per this suggestion I decided to redo the camera mount this weekend.

This is where it will be mounted

Yes, it is kinda crooked, but I fixed that before I finished it up. Using 1/8" rivets to hold it on. I'll keep an eye on it for a few weeks to make sure it holds. Yes, I also painted the bracket black after this test fit.

Finished product

I'll grab a side shot/ different angles later.
