car moves all over road
« on: November 18, 2011, 03:17:27 PM »
So pretty much since the day I brought my 2011 lancer gts home, it moves all over the road but its not only on windy days, its all the time. I have taken it back to the dealer and they checked the wear on the tires and it all seems fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be?

Lmao dude. Get new tires ASAP.

The stock Dunlops are crap I had some very scary moments with those things and I didn't have close to as much mileage as you do.

Get a nice set of pure summer tires. You'll be a lot happier with your Lancer.

uneven road surface. I know it may sound crazy, but in my 1994 4x4 Mitsu Mighy Max, I used to experience what your describing to a T. It varied from road to road depending on how level the road was. On freeways it was awesome. On one city street I remember it was so bad that it was almost impossible to keep it in a straight line because the lanes where the tires ride had sunk down from the years of traffic going over it. Water would even puddle up and stay there it was so bad.
About 5 years ago they finally resurfaced the road. My truck does great on it now with almost no pulling the truck around. Now I also ran an oversized tire of which I still do. I think cars with smaller tires are not near as prone to what you describe.
My Lancer experiences it a little and it runs oversized tires. I run 18's. However my Lancer's steering is so tight that I feel everything thru the steering wheel.
Only thing I can suggest is take it to a tire shop and have them do an alignment check on it.

+1 on the alignment and probable road condition. I know some of the roads in the high desert don't have the best of maintenance. I have the stock tires and on a good road surface the car behaves like it should. Just my 1/50 of a $.

Well , there's the problem !
Change out those tires , the car will be completely different .
I don't care what road conditions are those tires are down right dangerous !
I changed mine to Pirreli P-zero nero m&s and have had zero issues with handling .
Although with way our cars alignment specs , You will be lucky to get 23,000 miles out of any tires.

@clazie18 - Before you go spending hundreds of dollars on tires take it to a dealer, or a suspension shop, and have the basics checked out. Could be any number of things: bad ball joint, loose tie rod end, bad sway bar link, etc. Just because the Dunlops aren't the best tires around, Mitsu wouldn't knowlingly put "down right dangerous" tires on a family car that sells in the tens of thousands. Have a pro check it out, go from there. I'm out.

You're right towerfan he should definitely have it checked out. However the dunlops are "downright dangerous" and a company like Mitsubishi would put them on vehicle because they're OE tires, they slap them on to sell the car and that's it.

If you look at the tire rack reviews , the dunlops are probably the worst tires on the whole website. Seriously, check it for yourself.

The winter performance for these tires is absolutely dangerous and I wouldn't recommend anyone to use them. I was in the same situation as the OP , I thought there was something with my alignment or suspension until I purchased those sweet ,sweet Eagle F1's ;)

That may be, and I'm no tire expert, but can they be so absolutely bad that they cause the car to swerve around on the road? Also note where he's from, high desert California. It snows there about once evry few years, not like where you real winter folks are. All I know is mine aren't as bad as all that. Just my 2 cents. Now i'm out. Good luck OP.

Thank you guys for all your input, its all appreciated. I wish I could say it is only road conditions but it does it on every road, even brand new roads. Thank you for your input though towerfan, that was my first thought too.

Being as one of my first jobs was in tire business and worked with dunlop tires for 8 yrs , I think I do know something about tires and their behavior .Just my 2 cents
And Oem tires are not selected for quality or handling , they are selected by a bid for cost , dunlop just low bid so they won.
