applied moleskin
« Reply #15 on: May 15, 2008, 05:17:33 PM »
Hi there,
well I'm back.. for now after a really.. ummm "shocking" surprising week.. family wise.
Today I decided to get my mind of things.. and applied this moleskin to my weather stripping.

The directions within this post are pretty dead on.
Took me about hmmm 1hr 30mins to do it.

Here are a few tips after I did one of the back windows..
After removing those 3 screws, all u really need to do is put your thumb near the edge of the door, slowly pull up to get a grip of the stripping.. and slide it out.
One other thing, since u have to cut the felt down the middle, all I did was fold it in half, measure the length of course, then I used a metal ruler with a razor blade knife and started to cut it.

I used 1500 grit wet sand paper to give the stripping a lil corse texture and wiped it down with a rag.
I applied the felt and really pressed hard throughout the length to make sure its on there good.
Then I put the stripping back into the door panel.

Instructions mention to leave for 12hrs until rolling down the windows.

Well that is about it for now :)

Any Qs pls ask.

Thxs

Mike

Well I just got my moleskin today but didn't install it yet. The instructions say to wait until after getting tint because of the sprays the tinter may use; however, I've also read that people would get some glue smudges for a couple of days after installing the moleskin and I wouldn't want to get that on my new tints!

So should I wait until after I get my tints done or can I install them before hand?

Also they included a print out of Tat's instructions with my order but mine didn't come in a plastic bag and rubber banded like the picture mine was rolled up, taped, and loose in the box.

You mean using these specific pictures and writings? Can you post a pic please. :)

It's up to you; the adhesive will get itself on the windows for quite a while.. Not a one month thing.

How it came in the box (I had already removed the small piece of tape that kept it from unraveling):

tatsujo ,

We just added those extra pictures to our instructions recently. IMHO the value of our kit is the Tint Protector Moleskin not the instructions since they can be found in various web forums.

We will be more than happy to revert back to our older pictures if you wish. We did not mean to ruffle any feathers. We are trying to help the customer out as best we can by including the clearest pictures available.

Sorry our team didn't contact you first to ask permission.

let us know,  ;)

James

Hello James,

As with anything else, I felt that I should of atleast been contacted about permissions to use the pictures. It's more or less the fact that the pictures had a watermark that was pointing to a different website than anything else. Initially, I feel that you are just taking credit for what's not yours and you can surely see where I am coming from since myself, or this site did not receive any credit on it.

With that said, I do not mind that you guys are using the pictures; I am grateful that they were able to benefit you, but maybe a note in your instructions that points to this site or the link to this thread would help give credit when credit is due as I did to vouch for your product.

Thanks.

FYI, tint protector glue only lasted  6 months until I had to reapply glue using 3m adhesive spray.

3m has worked great the past 5 months no glue residue no problems like I had with the original tint protector.

There is other felt available that is extremely comparable in quality. I am going to install generic moleskin with 3m adhesive spray in my brothers 08 to see how it compares to tint protector that I have in my car.

Overall I am satisfied with the product, I originally felt they needed a better instruction manual, now that i see they borrowed one :D it is much better. would have been nice of them to ask initially but glad to see they cleared it up.
